Long / Short Hedge Funds

The firm’s flagship South African focused long/short fund dates back to February 2001. Visio’s hedge funds are traditionally net long bias and carry limited derivative positions. The Funds target positive returns on capital invested, irrespective of market conditions. Investment decisions are based on in-depth research of company and sector fundamentals. Portfolio churn is low and the average holding period for investments in the portfolios exceeds 12 months.

SA Domiciled Funds

The hedge funds are managed on the same basis and strategies are applied uniformly. The strategies invest in both domestic and offshore listed equities. The Visio FR Retail RI Hedge Fund, and qualified investor hedge funds have net long exposure limits of  100% of invested capital. Visio II, Visio FR Retail RI Hedge Fund and Occasio are Rand denominated onshore funds. We offer both qualified and retail investor fund structures as well as segregated mandates. Our marketing initiatives are generally limited to the monthly distribution of fact sheets and newsletters on a selective basis. The hedge funds’ returns feature in local and global hedge funds surveys.

Africa

The firm launched its Africa ex-South Africa equity strategy under Gondo Visio Capital Management (Pty) Ltd (“Gondo Visio”) in June 2009. The Metsi Africa Fund in a long only strategy that aims to provide fund management for global investors seeking exposure to equity markets in Africa. The Fund targets positive returns on capital invested on worldwide exchanges that provide exposure to businesses that generate a significant portion of their earnings from Africa. Segregated mandates are also available. The Africa team follows an investment approach premised upon fundamental research and analysis applied across equity investment strategies depending on the mandate. Portfolio churn is low and the average holding period for investments in the portfolios exceeds 12 months.
